71. Reason and Reality: Pursuit vs. Avoidance

The following is my discussion and commentary regarding how Capitalism and Freedom encourages the pursuits of reason and reality under Capitalism and Freedom versus how Statism and Force encourages the avoidance of reason and reality. My discussion regarding the pursuits of reason and reality under Capitalism comes first, followed by my discussion regarding the avoidance of reason and reality under Statism.

PURSUITS of REASON and REALITY under CAPITALISM and FREEDOM

Capitalism and Freedom encourages and promotes the pursuits of positive and rational values, leading to a positive anticipation of the future for personal, individual happiness, success, and prosperity.

In general, I think that for most individuals and businesses within a society formed around Capitalism and Freedom, the focus is on using and applying reason, logic, and reality, including peaceful, voluntary (non coercive) cooperation in social and business interactions, and the avoidance and rejection of irrational thinking, emotionalism, mysticism, and rationalizing.

For Example: Simply observe the period in history of the U.S.A. after independence from England’s rule and the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, up until approximately 1925, excluding any government interference, restriction, regulation, manipulation, or coercive force used against individual and economic freedom during that time.

Under Capitalism, an individual’s life and work belongs only to themselves, where individual and economic freedom, individual rights, property rights, and derivative freedoms are recognized, preserved, defended, and protected by a proper, objectively established constitutionally-limited government.

VERSUS -

AVOIDANCE of REASON and REALITY under STATISM and FORCE

Statism and Force encourages and promotes the avoidance of positive and rational values, in favor of negative and irrational values, leading to a despairingly, negative expectation of the future where only drudgery, misery, failure, and impoverishment can exist.

In general, I think that for most individuals and businesses within a society formed around Statism and Force, the focus is on using and applying irrational thinking, emotionalism, mysticism, rationalizing, including coercive government force in social and business interactions, along with the avoidance and rejection of reason, logic, and reality.

For Example: in a country with a statist-oriented government in place (such as the current U.S.A.), a businessman who cannot properly, competently, and freely compete in a true free-market economy to keep his own business alive -- perhaps due to his own lack of good business skills, lack of competitive creativity, and/or lack of motivation (he is lazy), or simply due to bad business decisions on his part, or too much debt, or a dwindling market for his product or service, or simply that some other business can compete better and more efficiently than he can -- may end up running to the statist government to lobby for its influence, favoritism, manipulation, intimidation, restriction, regulation, and control against his competitor(s) by using several statist coercive governmental applications such as (1) “anti-trust” laws, or (2) ”predator competition” law suits, or (3) “insider trading” regulations, or (4) using coercive regulatory force against “mean big corporations,” or (5) obtaining government “business subsidies” (welfare) to stay in business, paid for by the taxation on his competitors and customers (consumers), or (6) supporting and receiving government “bailout” financial assistance to cover and pay for his own irresponsible, sloppy, and negligible business decisions and practices.

To continue: Though many businessmen tend to rationalize that under a statist system they must engage in such statist-oriented tactics in order to compete and stay alive, they forget that by using such rationalizing they deliberately “blank out” (Ayn Rand), and ignore, the consequences of such decisions and actions – and thus become the very crony capitalists that aide in destroying a true free-market economy, along with everyone’s individual and economic freedom, including individual rights, property rights, and derivative freedoms.

This means that such a businessman - the crony capitalist - engages in (uses) statist-oriented tactics while deliberately avoiding and ignoring the reality (the fact) that all the coercive government economic intrusion, regulation, control, and force, that he wants and supports, against the free-market and his competitors is an infringement and violation of his competitor’s economic freedom, rights, including their property rights (how they may decided to act with their assets, money, and physical and/or intellectual property), as well as including deliberately avoiding and ignoring the reality (the fact) that such government intrusion, regulation, control, and force into a free-market economy ALSO reduces, limits and even destroys the availability of the best possible products, goods, services, or resources, at the best possible competitive prices and costs, to consumers and other businesses. It also increases the changes that such a statist government will also eventually destroy the crony capitalist himself.

Under Statism, an individual’s life and work belongs to the state (government or ruling group), where force, control, tyranny, and enslavement spreads like a retched, all-consuming, life-draining socialist ooze – destroying productivity, wealth, ambition, goals, dreams, and hope.

Under Statism (in any and all of its forms), individual rights, property rights, derivative freedoms, and economic freedoms are not recognized, not preserved, not defended, and not protected by the statist government.
