54. Private Charity vs. Government Welfare

This represents my discussion regarding the growth of, the beneficial and benevolent nature of, and the positive and productive results of Private Charity and Humanitarian Efforts under Laissez-faire Capitalism, versus the inefficient effect of, the harmful and malevolent nature of, and the negative and destructive results of Forced Government Welfare Programs under Statism. My discussion of Private Charity comes first, followed by my discussion of Forced Government Welfare.

Growth of Private Charity under Capitalism.
Growth of Humanitarian Efforts under Capitalism.

Capitalism and Freedom represents, encourages, and promotes the growth of private charity and humanitarian efforts (both secular and church based, as well as business and corporation based) due to the growth and production of private wealth and private sponsors. Unrestricted and unregulated private charity and humanitarian activities and programs would exist under Capitalism.

It is my view that true charity and humanitarian efforts from the private sector increases and flourishes under laissez-faire Capitalism. Since there is no taxation under a true capitalist system, there is much more private disposable income and wealth available for the individual, business, and organization to use as they see fit, including if they wish, contributing and donating some of their private income and wealth towards the charity and humanitarian efforts and activities of their choice, whether for personal family matters, neighbors in need, their churches, private medical and educational concerns, or communities damaged by severe weather, fire, earthquakes, etc.

Under Capitalism, even charity and humanitarian activities and programs are competitive, which is not a bad thing – but a very good and necessary thing so that those people truly in need do receive the best help, charity, and humanitarian efforts possible. Under Capitalism, there is NO government interference in distributing and directing private charitable funds, materials, and resources to where private individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations want the funds to go, or where they are truly needed. I think that most Charity and Humanitarian Organizations, Groups, and Churches would compete sincerely and honestly for all the extra available income and wealth in a growing, productive, and prosperous capitalist system. The capitalist limited-government would not be involved in any type of welfare, charitable, or humanitarian efforts, activities, or programs - in any manner whatsoever - nor would such a limited-government be allowed to interfere with, regulate, mandate, or control any charity or humanitarian effort or activity by the private sector.

Because of the positive nature of Individual Freedom and Capitalism - in conjunction with a proper, objectively established, constitutionally-limited, representational government that recognizes, preserves, defends, and protects individual rights, property rights, and derivative freedoms - I think that the concepts of genuine goodwill and benevolence towards mankind grows and flourishes naturally and endlessly. And because of this, true, genuine charity and humanitarian efforts also grow and flourish endlessly under a true laissez-faire capitalist social-political system where true individual freedom exists.

It is obviously in the best interests of all private charity and humanitarian oriented individuals, secular and church organizations, businesses, corporations, and other private concerns, that each and every single one of these private “concerns” encourage, demand, and defend true Individual Freedom and true Capitalism, and all that they represent. It is the only way to make possible and enjoy an ever increasing, growing, flourishing, and limitless supply of private disposable funds, materials, and resources for all charity and humanitarian efforts and activities, and makes possible the existence of true, genuine goodwill and benevolence towards mankind.

It is also very important to realize that to truly eradicate poverty, economic chaos, political misery, slavery, and tyranny throughout the world, one must reject, shun, and denounce any and all forms of Statism, statist governments, statist rulers, statist politicians, and statist supporters, and demand that these statist governments and regimes resign from their force and control over the citizenry and economies of their countries - and then embrace, support, defend, and demand that the concepts of individual freedom, individual rights, property rights, and derivative freedoms, and unregulated free-market economies be implemented, established, recognized, preserved, defended, and protected by a proper, objectively established, constitutionally-limited government.

There is no greater power in the world to eliminate poverty and political misery from the world than to establish Individual and Economic Freedom, meaning Capitalism, for all individual human beings living anywhere and everywhere in the world, or in the universe.

Question: Why are capitalistic-oriented people and businesses so generous in their charity and humanitarian activities, help, and contributions?

Answer: Because under a true political-social-economic system of Capitalism, of true individual and economic freedom, and limitless wealth production and prosperity, such capitalist-oriented people and businesses can LITERALLY afford to be generous and charitable. I also think that, generally, most capitalist-oriented people genuinely want to see others doing well and prospering, and not see them impoverished and miserable.

No one can afford to be generous and charitable under Statism, because Statism destroys individual and economic freedom, and destroys wealth production and prosperity for everyone.

For a great example of how great, beneficial, and efficient Private Charity and Humanitarian Efforts can be, even within a mixed-economy as our current United States is, witness the immense beneficial and efficient private humanitarian efforts applied to helping and rebuilding the New Orleans areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, while the U.S. Federal government, Louisiana state and local governments, and FEMA, all wasted – and are still wasting – billions of dollars in aide, with their own practices and procedures to help and rebuild being extremely slow and inefficient. For a great video presentation of the benefits of private charity versus the waste of government welfare and aide, visit John Stossel’s homepage and watch Stossel’s Guide to Politics (Part 1).

I think that if the government completely got out of disaster relief, welfare, and bail-out programs, plus drastically lowered or totally abolished taxation on all fronts, private charity and humanitarian efforts, along with an unrestricted, unregulated free-market economic system, would quickly, efficiently, and beneficially respond to the needs, demands, and recovery from any disaster. Under Capitalism, the government’s only function during, and after, a disaster is to maintain the peace among the citizenry, and to protect individual rights and property rights, and to step aside and allow individual and economic freedom to assist, rebuild, and progress forward.

If you want to truly eliminate and banish poverty and political misery throughout the world, then I strongly suggest that you
- support, defend, demand, and “vote in” Capitalism and all that it stands for, and
- shun, denounce, reject, and “vote down” and “vote out” Statism and all that it stands for.

Destruction of Private Charity under Statism.
Destruction of Humanitarian Efforts under Statism.

Statism and Force represents, encourages, and promotes the destruction of private charity and humanitarian efforts (both secular and church based, as well as business and corporation based) in favor of forced Government Welfare through government regulation, mandates, control, massive taxation, redistribution of income and wealth, and the consuming welfare state. Statist governmental restrictions and regulations on private charity and humanitarian efforts, along with the government’s own forced “public” welfare, charity, and humanitarian activities (paid for with taxation) end up destroying the proper function of private charity and humanitarian efforts. Government taxation, fees, and fines cause the continual decline and ultimate destruction of available private disposable income and wealth, causing loss of funds and destruction to true, genuine private charity and humanitarian efforts.

Again, because of the basic negative nature of Statism and like any statist government program or agenda, any and all government-oriented charity and/or humanitarian activities (including government welfare and subsidies) eventually become solely focused on the survival, continuation, functioning, and self-preservation of the government and its associated agencies, including political and military agenda, policies, manipulations, and maneuvers, NOT towards genuine charity and humanitarian efforts.

A statist government is all about self-preservation, never about true charity or humanitarian efforts. True, sincere, and genuine charity and/or humanitarian efforts become secondary or non-existent.

Any statist government, its agencies, and its politicians and government officials care little about any type of goodwill towards its citizenry, or the human race in general. The function of any statist government is all about self-preservation and maintaining force and control over its citizenry. Period.

Under Statism, all (if any exist) charity and humanitarian activities are used, and become oriented, towards the continuation and self-preservation of statist government force, control, and tyranny.

Because of the negative nature of Statism and Force, I think that the concepts of genuine goodwill and benevolence towards mankind are corrupted and destroyed. Under Statism, I think that instead of goodwill and benevolence, there grows contempt and malevolence towards one’s neighbor and fellow man, among all the citizenry. When your life and your property no longer belong to you, but belong to the state (government) or the “general public,” and your income and wealth has been confiscated with government force through taxation, fees, and fines, there’s not much left for any goodwill or good wishes towards your neighbor or fellow man.

Examples of various “public” government welfare, charity, and humanitarian programs within the United States that are inefficient and financially wasteful, and that actually drain resources from, harm, and hinder true private charity and humanitarian efforts:
- FEMA
- The Food Stamp Program
- The WIC Program
- The Department of Urban Development (HUD)
- Government Housing Projects

There is no such thing as genuine goodwill, charity and humanitarian concerns mixed with ruthless, tyrannical statist government agenda, policies, regulation, force, control, and tyranny.

Statist governments, their political rulers and tyrants, and supporters, deliberately and purposely keep their citizenry in poverty, misery, ignorance, impoverishment, and economic chaos, because such conditions are essential in preserving and maintaining their political force, control, and tyranny over the citizenry and economy. Statist governments, their political rulers and tyrants, and supporters are scared to death of Individual Freedom and Capitalism, because it would mean the end of their political control and force over the citizenry and economy, and the end of their political self-preservation.

No one can afford to be generous and charitable under Statism, because Statism destroys individual and economic freedom, and destroys wealth production and prosperity for everyone. I also think that most, if not all, statist-oriented people don’t like to see others doing well and prospering (they envy it, hate it, and fear it), but they rather like to see people impoverished and miserable, intending never to truly helping anyone, because to help others become self-reliant and independent of them scares statist-oriented people to death, as it takes away their power and control base.

Not enough can be said about the destructive, immoral, and evil force and power of Statism, in any and all of its forms. Statism destroys everything and anyone it touches. This is due to its two fundamental, essential elements: (1) individual human life – man’s life – belongs to the state (government or ruling group), and (2) the state regulates and controls the economy.

Statism (socialism) – and all that it stands for - is vile, anti-life, destructive, immoral, and evil to its core.
